COMUNICADO SOBRE LA SOCIEDAD DE SAN. PÍO X

CIUDAD DEL VATICANO, 14 SEP 2011 (VIS).- Sigue el comunicado emitido hoy a mediodía por la Oficina de Prensa de la Santa Sede sobre la situación de  la Fraternidad  Sacerdotal San Pío X .

 “El 14 de septiembre 2011, en la sede de la Congregación para la Doctrina de la Fe, ha tenido lugar un encuentro entre el cardenal William Joseph Levada, Prefecto de esa congregación y Presidente de la Pontificia Comisión Ecclesia Dei, el arzobispo Luis Ladaria, S.J., secretario de la misma  congregación y monseñor Guido Pozzo, secretario de la Pontificia Comisión Ecclesia Dei con el obispo  Bernard Fellay, Superior General de la Fraternidad Sacerdotal San Pío X, y los reverendos Niklaus Pfluger y Alain-Marc Nely, respectivamente primer y segundo Asistente  general de la Fraternidad.

 A raíz de la  súplica  dirigida por el Superior General de la Fraternidad Sacerdotal San Pío X a Su Santidad Benedicto XVI el 15 de diciembre de  2008, el Santo Padre decidió levantar la excomunión a los cuatro obispos consagrados por el arzobispo Lefebvre, y al mismo tiempo, abrir una serie de coloquios doctrinales  con dicha Fraternidad con el fin de aclarar los problemas de orden doctrinal y superar la fractura existente.

  En cumplimiento de las disposiciones del Santo Padre, una comisión mixta de estudios  formada por expertos de la Fraternidad Sacerdotal  San Pío X y por expertos de la Congregación para la Doctrina de la Fe se reunió en ocho sesiones que se celebraron en Roma entre octubre de 2009 y abril de 2011. Estas conversaciones, cuyo objetivo era exponer y analizar las dificultades doctrinales esenciales sobre temas controvertidos, consiguieron aclarar las respectivas posturas y sus motivos.

  Incluso teniendo en cuenta las preocupaciones e instancias planteadas por la Fraternidad Sacerdotal San Pío X con respecto a la custodia de la integridad de la fe católica frente a la hermenéutica de ruptura del Concilio Vaticano II con la Tradición, mencionada en el discurso de Benedicto XVI a la Curia Romana el 22 de diciembre de 2005,  la Congregación para la Doctrina de la Fe considera que la base fundamental para lograr la reconciliación plena con la Sede Apostólica es la aceptación del texto del Preámbulo doctrinal entregado en la sesión del 14 de septiembre de 2011. Dicho  preámbulo establece algunos principios doctrinales y criterios de interpretación de la doctrina católica, necesarios para garantizar la fidelidad al Magisterio de la Iglesia y el “sentire cum Ecclesia”, dejando abierto, al mismo tiempo, a una discusión legítima, el estudio y la explicación teológica de expresiones o formulaciones particulares  presentes en los documentos del Concilio Vaticano II y del Magisterio sucesivo.

   Durante la misma sesión, se han propuesto algunos elementos de cara a una solución canónica para la Fraternidad Sacerdotal  San Pío X,  que serían sucesivos a la eventual y esperada  conciliación”.

COMMUNIQUE CONCERNING THE SOCIETY OF ST. PIUS X

VATICAN CITY, 14 SEP 2011 (VIS) - At midday today the Holy See Press Office released the following communique concerning the postion of the Society of St. Pius X:

"On 14 September at the offices of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Cardinal William Joseph Levada, prefect of the congregation and president of the Pontifical Commission 'Ecclesia Dei'; Archbishop Luis Francisco Ladaria Ferrer S.J., secretary of the congregation, and Msgr. Guido Pozzo, secretary of the pontifical commission, met with Bishop Bernard Fellay, superior general of the Society of St. Pius X, who was accompanied by Fr. Niklaus Pfluger and Fr. Alain-Marc Nely, respectively first and second assistant general to the society.

"Following the appeal of 15 December 2008, addressed by the superior general of the Society of St. Pius X to His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI, the Holy Father decided to remove the excommunication against the four bishops consecrated by Archbishop Lefebvre. At the same time, he approved the opening of discussions with the society in order to clarify doctrinal problems and to heal the existing rift.

"In order to put the Holy Father's instructions into effect, a joint study commission was set up, composed of experts from the Society of St. Pius X and from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith who met in Rome on eight occasions between October 2009 and April 2011. Their discussions, which aimed to identify and study the essential doctrinal difficulties in the controversial issues, had the result of clarifying the positions of the two sides and their respective motivations.

"While bearing in mind the concerns and demands presented by the Society of St. Pius X about protecting the integrity of the Catholic faith against Vatican Council II's 'hermeneutic of rupture' with Tradition (a theme addressed by Pope Benedict XVI in his address to the Roman Curia on 22 December 2005), the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith maintains that the fundamental basis for achieving full reconciliation with the Apostolic See is the acceptance of the text of the Doctrinal Preamble, which was handed over during a meeting on 14 September 2011. The Preamble defines certain doctrinal principles and criteria for the interpretation Catholic doctrine, which are necessary to ensure faithfulness to the Church Magisterium and 'sentire cum Ecclesia'. At the same time, it leaves open to legitimate discussion the examination and theological explanation of individual expressions and formulations contained in the documents of Vatican Council II and later Magisterium.

"At the same meeting, certain suggestions were made for a canonical solution to the position of the Society of St. Pius X, with a view to achieving the desired reconciliation".
